DAY 1 MONDAY | Every ‘Amen’ Is Not Agreement | The Power of Agreement

Sometimes we say “Amen” because something sounds good… but deep down, our hearts are still battling fear and doubt. Today, let’s talk about what it really means to agree with God…because that’s what Amen means, right?

Father, in the name of Jesus, bring our hearts, minds, and words into alignment with Your truth today. Help us not to agree with fear or discouragement, but to stand firmly on what You have spoken, in Jesus’ name, Amen.

One of the easiest things to do as believers is to say the right words publicly while struggling privately.

We can say, “God is faithful,” and still spend the entire day overwhelmed with worry. We can say, “I trust the Lord,” while inwardly harbouring fear, discouragement, bitterness, or hopelessness.

And that is why every “Amen” is not agreement.

Jesus said in Matthew 12:34 (KJV): “For out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaketh.”

Eventually, whatever truly fills the heart begins to speak. Fear speaks. Faith speaks. Doubt speaks. Peace speaks. And sometimes our mouths are saying one thing while our hearts are believing another.

That is why agreement with God is deeper than repeating spiritual phrases emotionally. Agreement means aligning ourselves with His truth even when life feels uncertain.

Amos 3:3 (KJV) asks: “Can two walk together, except they be agreed?”

That sounds like we are talking about relationships with people right?

But here’s the thing: That scripture also challenges us spiritually. Are we truly walking in agreement with God’s direction, God’s Word, and God’s will?

Because truth be told, many times we want God’s promises while we continue to resist God’s process.

Israel struggled with this repeatedly. They knew how to gather publicly. They knew how to speak covenant language. But their hearts often drifted far from obedience.

Isaiah 29:13 (KJV) says: “This people draw near me with their mouth, and with their lips do honour me, but have removed their heart far from me.”

Is that still happening today?

People say: “God is in control.” But internally, they surrender to panic.

People say: “I forgive.” But they continue daily to rehearse how someone hurt them.

People say: “I believe God.” But every conversation is filled with utterances of defeat and hopelessness.

And if we are honest, many of us have had moments where our emotions were louder than our faith. We can look back, maybe to just yesterday, when we fell into one or more of those categories.

Let’s go to the Bible and look at this example we can look to for encouragement today.

Ezra was a priest and spiritual leader who helped restore God’s people after exile by calling them back into true obedience, repentance, and alignment with God’s Word.

Ezra understood something powerful when the people returned to Jerusalem. Before rebuilding outwardly, he dealt with the condition of their hearts first. Because, catch this: Outward rebuilding means little if inward agreement is broken.

Ezra 10:11 (KJV) says: “Now therefore make confession unto the Lord God of your fathers, and do his pleasure.”

Not just speak emotionally by shouting and talking in tongues.

Not just appear spiritual publicly by being composed and helpful and always in the right place when it comes to church and prayer lines and live Christian streams on social media.

Family, you and I are simply called upon to come into true alignment with God.

Psalm 19:14 (KJV) says: “Let the words of my mouth, and the meditation of my heart, be acceptable in thy sight, O Lord.”

Notice David mentioned both his words and his meditation. Because agreement is not only what we say publicly. Agreement is what we continuously dwell on privately.

And some of us need to ask ourselves honestly today: What have I truly been agreeing with lately?

Fear? Offense? Discouragement? Bitterness? Aloneness or loneliness? Hopelessness? Or have we been agreeing with God’s truth?

Joshua told Israel in Joshua 24:15 (KJV): “Choose you this day whom ye will serve.” Because agreement is ultimately a choice.

We have to understand that thoughts will come into our heads, our minds, but not every thought deserves agreement. Not every fearful report deserves agreement. Not every emotion deserves agreement.

As believers, we must intentionally bring our hearts back into alignment with what God has spoken.

Because real agreement begins in the heart before it ever reaches the mouth.

So if I continually speak negatively, constantly expect the worst, and keep rehearsing fear and discouragement, then that reveals what I have truly been agreeing with internally.

But the encouragement for us today is this: we can choose to bring our hearts, our thoughts, our words, and our faith back into alignment with God’s truth. We can choose to say “Amen” to peace instead of panic, faith instead of fear, hope instead of defeat, and God’s promises instead of our emotions.

Because true agreement begins when our hearts genuinely align with what God has spoken. Galatians 5:25 (KJV) “If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”

Family, this is for you as much as it is for me: If we say we belong to God and live by His Spirit, if we are led, guided, and shaped by God’s presence and truth, then our thoughts, words, choices, and lifestyle should reflect that agreement daily.

Help me, Jesus!
