Day 2 | God Made WHAT? Who Created the Rules | What the Bible Really Says

Yesterday we established that God did not create sin. But Isaiah 45:7 is still sitting there making people uncomfortable. God says He creates darkness. He makes peace and creates evil. And even after we explained it, some people, including our silent listener, are still wrestling with it. Today we go a little deeper, because if God did not create sin, what exactly did He create? And what does that tell us about who He is?

Lord, we thank You today that we are alive and eager to learn more about You. As we continue this series about Who Invented the Rules, we thank You that You are not afraid of the hard questions because You have all the answers. Today we ask You to give us understanding that goes beyond what we were told. Let Your Word speak for itself. And where we have misunderstood You, correct us with grace. In Jesus' name, Amen.

Let's go back to Isaiah 45:7. God says He forms light and creates darkness, makes peace and creates evil. We established yesterday that the Hebrew word 'ra' means calamity and adversity, not moral sin. But let's take that further. Why would God claim authority over darkness and calamity in the first place?

Because God is sovereign. Sovereign means He is the ultimate authority over everything that exists, including the hard things, the painful things, and the things we do not understand.

When God says He creates darkness, He is not saying He is evil. He is saying nothing happens outside of His knowledge or beyond His reach. Not one thing. So when we do evil, He would have known already that this would happen.

Job understood this. After losing everything: his children, his wealth, and his health, Job said in Job 1:21, 'The Lord gave, and the Lord hath taken away; blessed be the name of the Lord.' Job did not accuse God of being evil. He acknowledged that God's sovereignty covers even the worst moments of our lives.

Lamentations 3:37-38 puts it plainly: 'Who is he that saith and it cometh to pass, when the Lord commandeth it not? Out of the mouth of the Most High proceedeth not evil and good?' Nothing happens by accident. God is not surprised by anything. He does not create sin but He rules over a world where sin exists, and He uses even that for His purposes.

Romans 8:28 reminds us, 'And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are called according to His purpose.' All things. Not just the good things. All things. That is sovereignty. That is not the same as God being the author of your pain or the inventor of your sin, because He is not.

God made light and declared it good. God made humanity and called it very good. What God made, He called good. Sin is what happened when creation turned away from the Creator. And even in that turning, God was not caught off guard. He already had a plan. His name is Jesus.
