Day 2 | What Kind of Covering Are You Under? | Who’s Covering You?

Not everything that looks like support is strength. So the question is: What you’re leaning on right now… is it actually covering you, or just making you feel secure?

Heavenly Father, we come before You because of Your great love towards us and knowing that You are the only One who can help us. We thank You for this wonderful privilege. As we come by today, we ask for discernment as we go through this life. Help us to see clearly what is truly from You and what is not. Where we have leaned on things that cannot sustain us, gently correct us. Teach us how to recognise the difference between true covering and what only appears to be covering. Lead us by Your Holy Spirit into truth, and anchor us in You as our source. In Jesus name, Amen.

You know, Family, there are moments when everything seems to be going right. We have people around us. We have conversations, advice, support, and even encouragement.

On the surface, it feels like you are covered. But when pressure comes—real pressure—it is only then that you begin to notice something. What you thought would hold you steady doesn’t quite do it.

That is because not all covering is real; therefore, it is not effective.

Scripture gives us a picture of what real support looks like.

Ecclesiastes 4:12 (KJV) says, “And if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a threefold cord is not quickly broken.” That kind of covering has strength in it. It can endure pressure. It does not collapse when things get difficult. It holds. That is not lip service covering. That is tested, dependable support that is there just when you need it most.

Unfortunately, everything that appears supportive does not have that kind of strength.

There are times when we rely on what we can see with our naked eyes rather than on what is proven. Because we can be surrounded and still be unsupported. You can be advised and still be unguided. We can be encouraged and still be uncovered in the places we are most vulnerable.

This is why we have to have spiritual discernment.

In Jeremiah 17:5 (KJV), it says, “Cursed be the man that trusteth in man, and maketh flesh his arm…” Now, that does not mean people have no place. It means people were never meant to be our source of strength. The sooner we realise that, it will be the better for us. When we make people our covering instead of recognising them as vessels, we place weight on them that they were never built to carry.

And this is where frustration often begins.

You expected more from them. You thought they would understand. You believed they could carry you through something they themselves have never walked through.

And slowly, what you thought was covering begins to show its limits. We begin to blame that person, becoming disappointed in them, forgetting that, like you, they are flawed and need help too.

Scripture reminds us of something important in Isaiah 31:1 (KJV), “Woe to them that go down to Egypt for help… but they look not unto the Holy One of Israel…”

What does that tell us? Don’t miss the point. The issue was not that help was sought. The issue was where it was placed. They turned to what looked strong, but it was not aligned with God.

And we still do this today.

We return to familiar voices because they are available. We lean on personalities because they are present. We accept guidance without asking if it is grounded in the Word of God.

But we have learnt that not all covering is built on truth.

Hosea 4:6 (KJV) says, “My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge…” Not lack of people. Not a lack of connection. But lack of understanding. When we don’t understand what true covering is, we settle for what feels right instead of what is right. I can testify. I have fallen victim to that too many times.

Family, let’s take this a step further, because there is something else to consider: Covering is not just about presence; it is about alignment.

1 Corinthians 3:6–7 (KJV) says, “I have planted, Apollos watered; but God gave the increase. So then neither is he that planteth any thing, neither he that watereth; but God that giveth the increase.”

Understand this clearly: Even when people play a role, they are not the source. The effectiveness comes from God. So we have to stop feeling hurt and calling people ungrateful when they move on after we would have helped them when no one else would, even after it seems as though they used you to accomplish something they wanted. Help me, Holy Spirit.

So what am I saying here? If God is not at the centre of what is covering us, then what we are under may be present, but it is not powerful.

This is why some coverings feel heavy instead of helpful. They demand more from you than they give to you. They speak, but they do not strengthen. They are there, but they do not lift you up. In fact, they drain you.

And over time, we begin to feel the weight of something that was never meant to carry us.

But, hallelujah, thank You Jesus, when covering is right, it does something different. It steadies us. It aligns us. It strengthens us in a way that points us back to God, not away from Him.

Psalm 20:7 (KJV) says, “Some trust in chariots, and some in horses: but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.” That is a shift in reliance. It is not denying that other things exist; it is choosing where our confidence rests.

So the question is not whether I have covering. The question is: What kind of covering am I under? That’s an individual question.

Because whatever we are relying on will eventually be tested. And when it is, it will either hold us or break us, revealing that it was never covering in the first place. My late mother would say here: Tell me about it!

Family, once we begin to discern the difference, we would stop settling for what only looks like covering… and we start aligning ourselves with what truly is. Amen and Amen!

Just because they’re close to you doesn’t mean they’re assigned to you. When pressure comes, are you turning to those who are familiar, or to those who are actually appointed for that moment? Heavenly
