Day 3 | Not Everyone Can Cover You in Every Season

Just because they’re close to you doesn’t mean they’re assigned to you. When pressure comes, are you turning to those who are familiar, or to those who are actually appointed for that moment?
Heavenly Father, we come before You, thanking You for the blessings of this new day. We ask for discernment and alignment. Help us to recognise who You have placed in our lives for each season, and give us the humility to receive from the right sources. Where we have gone astray, correct us, we pray. Order our steps, guide our relationships, and teach us to trust Your direction. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
How many of us just love to have a crowd of people around us, all or most of the time?
How many of us prefer to have a small circle and don’t mind an occasional crowd?
How many of us prefer to be alone most of the time but can handle a small crowd once in a while?
We have different personalities, and we can perhaps find people in all three categories right here among us.
But through it all, we have to understand the difference between who is around us and who is assigned to us. And that’s what we are talking about today. Because if we are not careful, we will treat familiarity as if it is authority, and closeness as if it is purpose.
The fact is, we often return to what we know. The same voices. The same people. The same patterns. Not because they are effective, but because they are accessible. It feels easier to stay within what is known than to recognise that God may be directing us differently in a particular season.
Scripture makes it clear, Family, that God does not always use who we expect.
In Luke 10:33 (KJV), within the Parable of the Good Samaritan, it says, “But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him.”
Remember the story? The ones who were expected to help passed by. The one who was not expected to stop was the one who stopped. That was not random; it was assigned. After all, how would we have gotten this reference?
So what are we seeing here? The help we need is not always the help we recognise.
Truth is: There are times when God will send someone who does not fit our expectations, our comfort, or our preference. And if we are only looking for what is familiar, we may overlook what God wants to do in our lives.
This is why discernment matters.
In 1 Kings 17:9 (KJV), God tells Elijah, “Arise, get thee to Zarephath… behold, I have commanded a widow woman there to sustain thee.”
Just imagine: A widow, in a time of famine, was assigned to sustain a prophet. It does not seem logical. It did not look like she had the capacity to sustain him. But it was appointed by God.
Sometimes, Family, what God assigns does not look like what we would choose. As I said before: God does not always use who we expect.
If Elijah had remained where he was comfortable or waited for something that made more sense, he would have missed the provision that was already prepared for him. Talk about missing our blessings!
But there is also another side to this. Not everyone has the capacity to cover you in every situation.
In Exodus 17:12 (KJV), it says, “But Moses’ hands were heavy; and they took a stone, and put it under him… and Aaron and Hur stayed up his hands…”
Notice, not everyone was called to do that. Aaron and Hur were positioned and able to support Moses in that moment. That was their assignment.
Covering is not general; it is specific. It is tied to timing. It is tied to need. And it is tied to God’s direction. Not what we want, when we want, and how we want.
That’s why I’ve had people come around this ministry, excited to see all of you here and follow what God is doing here, only to fall after I didn’t worship them, and they fall out after a few days or weeks or months. Because why? They came with selfish motives, they were not real, they were not sent by God!
I can talk about this ministry. I can’t talk about what’s going on in your ministry or church or relationship, because I don’t know. I know about what has happened here over the last 11 plus years. I could talk.
They came pretending to hold up my hand, when in truth and fact, they wanted to discredit me because who is she to have this ministry, she doesn’t even know The Word as we do.
But they didn’t understand that I was appointed and assigned by God Himself. I didn’t plan to be here. God put me here. And through my resistance sometimes, my flaws, my failings, but thanks be to God, because of my obedience, He kept me covered, and I’m still here glorifying His Name! Hallelujah.
That was testimony time! Glory to God.
But Family, this is why trying to force people into roles they were not given will always lead to frustration. I got frustrated when certain people abandoned this ministry, because I didn’t understand that which I am studying now. I took it personally. But now, I understand. They were not assigned by God, so they couldn’t stay. Hmmm.
We may expect someone to hold us up, but in truth and fact, they do not have the strength, the understanding, or the grace for that assignment. And instead of recognising that, we begin to feel disappointed. Stop it.
Hear this: The issue is not always the person. Forgive them, release them.
The issue, Family, is our expectation. I had to learn this.
Scripture shows us in Acts 9:26–27 (KJV), “And when Saul was come to Jerusalem… they were all afraid of him… But Barnabas took him, and brought him to the apostles…”
See, others were present, but Barnabas was assigned to stand with Saul in that moment. He bridged the gap. He covered him in a way others did not and could not.
What’s the word? Assignment. It matters.
Moving right along. There are also moments when we are directed to move, not because something is wrong, but because something different is required.
In Genesis 12:1 (KJV), “Now the Lord had said unto Abram, Get thee out of thy country… unto a land that I will shew thee.”
God was shifting Abram away from what was familiar into what was appointed—and Abram obeyed. But some of us are resisting the shifting, holding on to what is familiar, even when what we need next is not where we are.
And again, this is where many of us struggle.
We hold on to what we have been doing for years, familiar actions, familiar voices, familiar people, familiar places; even when they are no longer effective for the season we are in.
We jump from place to place and circle of friends to a new circle, from church or ministry to a different church or ministry. Or for some of us, we expect the same people to meet new needs. We remain in places that once covered us, but no longer do.
And slowly, we begin to feel uncovered; not because God has left us, but because we have not moved with His direction. Help us, Holy Spirit.
Scripture makes it clear in Proverbs 3:6 (KJV), “In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” Direction includes people. It includes places. It includes support.
God does not leave us without covering. Hallelujah. He positions us for it.
But catch this: We have to be willing to recognise when what we are holding on to is familiar… but no longer assigned.
Because the right covering in the wrong season will still leave us exposed. Mighty God, may Your children hear You today.
But, glory to God, thank You Jesus, blessed be the name of the Lord: The right covering in the right season will meet us exactly where we are—strengthening us, supporting us, and pointing us back to God.
You see, Family, once that becomes clear, you and I will stop forcing connections, and we will start or continue following direction.
And that is where alignment begins. Amen?! What a Word!
