Day 5 – Choosing Which Spirit Rules: Walking in the Spirit | Spirits That Transfer: Understanding Spiritual Influence and Alignment

Galatians 5:16–17 (NKJV) says, “I say then: Walk in the Spirit, and you shall not fulfill the lust of the flesh. For the flesh lusts against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh; and these are contrary to one another, so that you do not do the things that you wish.”

Over the past few days, we’ve uncovered what spirits are, how they operate, how they transfer, and how to test them.

But here’s where it all leads — you and I must choose which spirit will rule in us.

That, Family, is not a one-time choice; it’s daily surrender.

What we have to understand, is that there are forces that keep many from recognizing evil spirits at work.

For some, it’s the stigma — the fear of being judged or labeled “too spiritual” if they admit something unseen is influencing them.

For others, it’s stubbornness — a refusal to acknowledge that their behaviour, attitude, or atmosphere could be spiritually driven.

Pride often says, “That’s just how I am,” when in truth, it’s a spirit they’ve allowed to linger for years.

Isaiah 5:20 (NLT) warns, “What sorrow for those who say that evil is good and good is evil, that dark is light and light is dark, that bitter is sweet and sweet is bitter.”

When people are full of pride and try to always justify their actions, this blurs their spiritual vision.

Jesus said in Matthew 15:8–9 (NKJV), “These people draw near to Me with their mouth, and honor Me with their lips, but their heart is far from Me. And in vain they worship Me, teaching as doctrines the commandments of men.”

See, sometimes the greatest deception is not from the outside world but from within the church — when we let human opinion or personal comfort silence the conviction of the Spirit.

Walking in the Spirit requires humility — the willingness to admit when we’ve been wrong, when we’ve followed our emotions, or when we’ve been deceived.

This is not weakness; it’s maturity. Many of us have to appreciate this position or we simply will not recognize the need to change our dirty ways. That’s a harsh reality.

If we remain prideful, stubborn, set in our ways, we are heading down the wrong path, straight to destruction.

Proverbs 28:13 (NKJV) says, “He who covers his sins will not prosper, but whoever confesses and forsakes them will have mercy.”

Family, God’s mercy doesn’t meet us in perfection — it meets us in repentance.

To walk in the Spirit also means to renounce every voice, influence, and mindset that is not aligned with God’s truth. It does not matter who it is, what they do for you or ow they make you feel - mother, father, children, husband, wife, friend, co worker…whoever.

2 Corinthians 10:5 (AMP) tells us, “We are destroying sophisticated arguments and every exalted and proud thing that sets itself up against the [true] knowledge of God, and we are taking every thought and purpose captive to the obedience of Christ.”

That means when thoughts of fear, pride, or bitterness arise, we don’t entertain them — we bring them under Christ’s authority.

And yes, this may make you unpopular; you may be rejected, abandoned, cast aside, mocked, talked about in an unfair way. That’s ok. They did worse than that to Jesus.

But we have to remain obedient to the Holy Spirit, even though sometimes this will separate us from people, patterns, or conversations we once enjoyed, or some people we love.

But can I tell you, as much as that hurts or affects us, it is nothing compared to the reward waiting for us in heaven. Amen?!

Family, we cannot walk in both light and darkness. There has to come a time when we run from darkness and evil, situations and people that are not good for us.

Amos 3:3 (NKJV) asks, “Can two walk together, unless they are agreed?”

The Spirit of God cannot coexist with rebellion. We can’t hold hands with what He’s trying to deliver us from. That’s a word for me right there.

That’s why renouncing wrong spirits is not about embarrassment — it’s about liberation. Saying “Lord, I was wrong” or “I’ve allowed the wrong influence” is not shameful; it’s powerful.

James 4:7–8 (NLT) says, “So humble yourselves before God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Come close to God, and God will come close to you.”

Family, humility invites help. Resistance invites victory.  When we bow before God, He stands up for us.

We have this hope Family: even if we’ve been living under confusion, fear, or unbelief — God stands ready to help us.

Psalm 34:17–18 (NKJV) says, “The righteous cry out, and the Lord hears, and delivers them out of all their troubles. The Lord is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves such as have a contrite spirit.”

He’s not waiting to condemn us, glory to God. He is waiting to restore us. Bless the name of Jesus.

Romans 8:5–6 (NLT) reminds us, “Those who are dominated by the sinful nature think about sinful things, but those who are controlled by the Holy Spirit think about things that please the Spirit. So letting your sinful nature control your mind leads to death. But letting the Spirit control your mind leads to life and peace.”

Notice the outcome — life and peace. That’s what the Spirit of God produces when we fully yield.

So if we’re in a place of doubt, fear, or uncertainty today, know this: we are not beyond God’s reach. He’s not angry with us; He’s calling us closer.

The Holy Spirit is our Comforter, our Counselor, our Advocate. He doesn’t just reveal truth — He empowers us to live it. He is Truth.

So as we go forth today, empowered to walk in the Spirit of the Living God, let this be our prayer:

“Holy Spirit, I renounce every other voice that’s not Yours — every influence, attitude, and thought that contradicts Your Word. I choose You. Even when it costs me comfort, friends, or pride, I choose to walk in Your light. Fill me again with Your presence. Lead me in truth. Keep my heart soft and my mind clear. I want to walk in Your Spirit — fully, freely, and faithfully. Amen.”

Family, we remain confident that when we walk in the Spirit, we won’t just recognize which spirit is operating — we will carry the authority to overcome it.
