Throughout this series, we have focused on hearing God clearly.

As we come to the close, Scripture directs our attention to what follows hearing: obedience.

The popular scripture to support this is James 1:22 (KJV)

“But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.”

But there’s also Matthew 7:24 (KJV) “Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:”

There is Luke 6:46 (KJV) “And why call ye me, Lord, Lord, and do not the things which I say?”

Deuteronomy 28:1 (KJV) “And it shall come to pass, if thou shalt hearken diligently unto the voice of the LORD thy God, to observe and to do all his commandments…”

So, we are made to understand that confidence in God’s voice comes from trusting Him enough to move when He speaks. Not waiting for perfect certainty.

Jesus connects obedience directly to relationship.

In the book of John 14:23 (KJV) “Jesus answered and said unto him, If a man love me, he will keep my words: and my Father will love him, and we will come unto him, and make our abode with him.”

Family, obedience is not about earning God’s presence; it is a response to it. When believers act on what God has already said, confidence grows naturally.

Let’s look again at Peter and his experience on the water.

Matthew 14:28–29 (KJV) “And Peter answered him and said, Lord, if it be thou, bid me come unto thee on the water. And he said, Come. And when Peter was come down out of the ship, he walked on the water, to go to Jesus.”

Peter did not wait for conditions to feel safe. His confidence came after he stepped out, not before. Faith was strengthened through obedience.

Scripture also reminds us that obedience is the evidence of hearing.

Luke 11:28 (KJV) “Yea rather, blessed are they that hear the word of God, and keep it.”

Hearing without responding leaves faith underdeveloped. Acting on God’s Word deepens trust and sharpens discernment.

Another powerful example is found in the life of Ananias.

In Acts 9:10–17 (KJV, selected), God spoke clearly to Ananias, instructing him to go to Saul. Though afraid, Ananias obeyed. His obedience played a role in Saul’s transformation and future calling.

Ananias did not fully understand the outcome, but he trusted the One who spoke. God confirmed His voice through obedience.

Scripture concludes this truth with a call to trust beyond understanding.

Proverbs 3:5–6 (KJV) “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.”

Hearing God is relational, not perfection-based. Confidence grows as believers respond faithfully to what they already know. God confirms direction as we walk with Him.

For seekers, this is an invitation to begin trusting the God who speaks.

For believers, this is a reminder that clarity often follows obedience.

Let us all make that decision today to trust God enough to move forward, respond faithfully to what He has already spoken, and grow confident as we walk in obedience to His voice.

Day 3 | Not Every Open Door Is From God

Again, this topic is deeply personal to me. Today, we are talking about open doors. And as Christians, we love open doors, don’t we? Because we say, "Oh, this is an answer to prayer. God is so good!”
