This week, we have been discovering, or we were reminded of some truths about the waiting season: Waiting is not punishment—it is preparation, and what we do during that season makes all the difference. We have also learnt, or it was emphasised, that God is not ignoring us; He is working in us.
Today, we come to another powerful moment: the realisation that we cannot stay stagnant as we wait, because life will leave us behind. We have to be about moving forward.
Because every waiting season should leave us with something: More faith. More strength. More understanding of our God.
Lamentations 3:22–23 (KJV) says: “It is of the LORD’S mercies that we are not consumed… They are new every morning: great is thy faithfulness.”
So, I am still here, you are still here, we are still here because God has been faithful. Not because everything was easy, but because His mercy carried us through.
So before we rush into what’s next, there is cause for pause and reflection, and reflect we must.
1. Reflect on what God has brought us through.
Think about it. The things that once overwhelmed us, we survived them. The moments we thought would break us, they didn’t.
Psalm 77:11 (KJV) “I will remember the works of the LORD…”
Reflection builds confidence. When I remember what the Lord has done, I can shout: Look what the Lord has done: brought me out of darkness into the marvellous light, He saved me, He healed me, He set me free! Halleljuah. And I trust Him more.
Is that your experience today? We may not know what’s ahead, but because of where we have come from, with God on our side, we can trust Him with the unknown-to-us future.
2. Release what no longer serves you
This is personal and applicable and working for me right now. Glory to God.
Family, we cannot move forward holding on to everything from the last season. Some mindsets have to go. Some habits have to go. Some weights have to go. Some friends have to go. Some jobs have to go.
Hebrews 12:1 (KJV) “…let us lay aside every weight… and let us run with patience the race…”
Notice it doesn’t say sin only. It says weight. That means, even things that are not wrong can still slow you down.
Some of us have been carrying disappointment, frustration, or even regret for weeks, months, and years, while the persons who wronged us or we think wronged us have moved on, long time. And we are stuck in the waiting season of trying to get over the rough patch.
Can I encourage us today? Reflect and move forward! Because if we carry this baggage into the next season of our lives, it will affect how we move. So lay it down!
3. Recognise what God built in you
Waiting was not empty. Look at it: We would have developed in many ways…hopefully: some developed patience, some learned discipline, some grew in discernment, some of us just got some ‘good ole common sense’!
Romans 5:4 (KJV) “…experience, hope.” Whichever way, we are not the same people we were before that last rough and tumble season. And that’s the point. Reflect and move forward, in Jesus Name.
4. Move forward with strength—not fear
Now that we’ve come through, we do so boldly. We don’t step forward unsure. We step forward anchored in the Lord. And you find yourself saying and meaning it too: that can’t happen to me again! By the grace of God.
Deuteronomy 31:6 (KJV) “Be strong and of a good courage… for the LORD thy God… will not fail thee.”
The same God who kept us will continue to lead us.
So, how do we wrap this up? We don’t leave a waiting season empty. We leave it equipped.
And what does moving forward look like? We don’t rush, we move with wisdom. We don’t carry everything, we release what’s heavy. We don’t forget what God has done for us in the past, we remember God’s faithfulness.
So hear this Family, this next season does not start with what we do. It starts with who we have become. Glory to God.
Reflect.Release.Recognise.Move forward.
Because God did not bring us through that season for us to go back the same.
Let’s make this declaration: We are stronger. We are wiser. And we are ready for what’s next. Hallelujah.
