“But then I recall all you have done, O Lord; I remember your wonderful deeds of long ago. They are constantly in my thoughts. I cannot stop thinking about your mighty works. O God, your ways are holy. Is there any god as mighty as you? You are the God of great wonders! You demonstrate your awesome power among the nations.” Psalms 77:11-14 NLT

Opening Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You for being greater than all that man can achieve. As we reflect on human innovation, help us to shift our awe to You—the Creator of all things, the One who makes a way where there is no way. May today’s devotional, and indeed this series, deepen our trust in Your unmatched power and Your divine ability to move in our lives. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Devotional:

I am recently back from a trip to the UK and my girls and I went from London to Paris via train.

The plans sounded real good to me until it registered in my brain that this train I will be on would be literally passing through or under the seas to get to where we were going.

Imagine! A tunnel running underneath the sea! Darkness, for over 30 miles beneath the English Channel, connecting London and Paris.

It’s known as the Channel Tunnel (or Chunnel) - one of the marvels of human engineering. This under the seas tunnel took years, many engineers, advanced machinery, and nearly $21 billion in today’s money to complete. It was once thought impossible. But mankind, with enough persistence, achieved it.

And this is all so amazing to me now, because I’ve been to Boston several times and it is now registering, because I’m vetry sure I was told this, that the tunnel going to Logan Airport is under the seas!

The things we take for granted, or don’t even think about!

You know, man has done a lot of things, more of which we will talk about over the next few days, but one thing they’ve tried and failed, is cloning humans.

Man and woman can have sex and produce babies, but man cannot create babies in a lab or through science. They have tried, but while some groups have made claims of success, none have ever been confirmed or scientifically validated. So there is no verified case in existence of human cloning.

Man has gone as far as cloning genes – copying a segment of DNA to study or use in research and medicine. There is reproductive cloning – creating an animal that is genetically identical to another, like Dolly the sheep (the first mammal cloned from an adult cell in 1996). And there has been therapeutic cloning – producing embryonic stem cells that are genetically identical to a patient, with potential uses in treating diseases or regenerating tissues.

However, cloning humans, creating man, thankfully, is where God draws the line. God Himself is the Creator of mankind.

Genesis 1:26–27 (KJV)“And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness... So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.”

Genesis 2:7 (KJV)“And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.”

Genesis 5:1–2 (KJV)“In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created.”

Now let’s pause for a moment as we dive into our study on “If Man Can, What More Can God Do? Trusting the God Who Does the Impossible”.

Let’s ask the question: If man can carve a tunnel through the depths of the sea, how much more can God do in our lives?

We often marvel at human inventions, and rightfully so. But sometimes, we forget that God is not limited by physics, money, or manpower. He doesn’t need permits or blueprints. He speaks—and things come into existence.

In Isaiah 43:16 (NLT), God says:“I am the Lord, who opened a way through the waters, making a dry path through the sea.”

We can recall that long before the Chunnel existed, God split the Red Sea with no machines, no funding, and no delay. He parted it with power and precision. In contrast to man, God creates paths in impossible places without needing to dig—He simply commands.

And we can think about that the next time we face an overwhelming situation. While engineers need calculations and conditions to be just right, our God already knows the outcome and has the power to make a way.

Family, life often confronts us with challenges that seem overwhelming—sickness in the body, bills we cannot pay, relationships that feel broken beyond repair, or dreams that appear out of reach. Yet even in these moments, we find ourselves marveling at what man can accomplish through science, technology, and determination.

If man, with all his limitations, can build bridges across oceans, cure diseases, and send rockets into space—how much more can God, the Creator of heaven and earth, do for us?

Luke 1:37 (NKJV) reminds us, ‘For with God nothing will be impossible.’

Trusting God means believing that God is The One who gives man wisdom, and where human ability ends, divine power begins. God is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all we ask or think.

The Message version of Jeremiah 32:27 captures it beautifully: “Stay alert! I am God, the God of everything living. Is there anything I can’t do?”

So why do we worry? Why do we limit God to what we think is possible?

The Amplified version of Proverbs 3:5–6 reminds us:“Trust in and rely confidently on the Lord with all your heart and do not rely on your own insight or understanding. In all your ways know and acknowledge and recognize Him, and He will make your paths straight and smooth [removing obstacles that block your way].”

If human hands can reach beneath oceans, certainly God’s Hand can reach beneath our pain, fears, and uncertainties.

So while we applaud tunnels and towers, may we also learn to lift our gaze and worship the One who holds up the sky.

The New King James Version says in Ephesians 3:20: “Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us…”

Family, many times we take God’s creation for granted. We move through life without reflecting on His handiwork—until a moment comes that causes us to pause and recognize His power and presence all around us.

The psalmist reminds us in Psalm 19:1 (KJV), ‘The heavens declare the glory of God; and the firmament sheweth his handywork.’

Creation itself is God’s testimony, pointing us back to His majesty and reminding us that He is always present.

So let’s take a moment today and breathe. Let awe rise within us—not just for human achievement, but for the limitless capability of our God. And let that awe birth trust.

Because if man can tunnel beneath the sea, then truly… what more can God do?

Closing Prayer:

Lord, thank You for the reminder that nothing is too hard for You. As we marvel at what man can build, may we never forget You are the One who laid the foundations of the earth. Strengthen our faith and help us to trust You beyond what we can see. Let us walk in awe and assurance, knowing You can do far more than we could ever imagine. In Jesus’ name, amen.
