Medical Marvels vs. The Great Physician | If Man Can, What More Can God Do?

We live in an age of extraordinary medical breakthroughs.

Surgeries that once seemed impossible are now routine, and machines can scan the deepest parts of the human body with incredible precision.

What we haven’t experienced for ourselves, we have heard of people who have, we have seen it on the internet or television, or we have read about it in newspapers or magazines.

Today, to set the stage to consider just how great our God is, we want to discuss for a moment how organ transplants, chemotherapy, pacemakers, and advanced medications have saved countless lives.

Many of us here have been under the knife, so to speak. We have undergone surgeries for heart conditions, cancer, appendicitis, kidney transplants, knee replacements, laser surgery for the eyes, brain surgeries, you name it. And we are still here. Thanks to some gifted physicians, nurses, anesthesiologists, lab technicians, radiologists, and other medical professionals. But more so, thanks be to God, the Great Physician.

These marvels not only testify to human creativity, but God’s wisdom deposited in mankind.

The Bible says in Psalm 111:2, NIV, “Great are the works of the Lord; they are pondered by all who delight in them”.

But even with these advances, we know that medicine has its limits.

Doctors can diagnose, treat, and manage, but they cannot guarantee full restoration.

They may mend a broken bone, but they cannot heal a broken heart.

They can prescribe medicine for pain, but they cannot remove the grief of loss.

They can extend life, but they cannot grant eternal life. And that is why we are here, and some of our loved ones or others we know or have heard about or not heard about, are not here.

This is where we see the difference between human marvels and the Great Physician.

In Mark 5:25-29 (NKJV), we read of a woman who had suffered for twelve years with a flow of blood. She had “suffered many things from many physicians. She had spent all that she had and was no better, but rather grew worse.”

But one touch of Jesus’ garment brought immediate healing. She didn’t have to touch more than once. She didn’t have to touch more than just the hem. She didn’t even have to touch the Feet or Hands of Jesus Himself.

Medicine failed her, but Christ restored her completely…with just the virtue coming from the hem of His garment…the divine power for healing and miracles. Hallelujah.

The prophet Jeremiah prayed, “Heal me, O Lord, and I shall be healed; save me, and I shall be saved, for You are my praise” (Jeremiah 17:14, ESV).

Notice the confidence.

How are we praying? What are we believing for? Have we given up on being healed? Are we saying: ahh, this comes with old age, so what can I do?

Even as I age, I continue to believe God for healing for these ailments that want to plague my body. I am not giving up on my healing. Even though God may choose not to heal me in this lifetime, I am reassured of a new life when Jesus Christ returns. Amen.

Family, God can and will bring ultimate healing and salvation. Do we believe that?

We trust modern medicine to treat diseases, because we continue to go to the doctor, correct?

Well, in the same way, and even more so, God can heal us, and even more so, He can cure the root and bring wholeness. Glory to God.

Even today, testimonies abound of those healed in ways doctors cannot explain. We have heard some of these testimonies right here. And even some of you listening right now are sitting on your testimony when you should be shouting God’s praises every opportunity you get.

Jesus said, “With man this is impossible, but with God all things are possible” (Matthew 19:26, NLT).

Whether through miraculous intervention or through the hands of skilled physicians, God remains the source of healing. Doctors treat, but God heals.

As we marvel at hospitals, technologies, and skilled practitioners, let us never forget that the Greatest Physician is still Christ Jesus.

Isaiah 53:5 (AMP) reminds us, “But He was wounded for our transgressions, He was crushed for our wickedness… the punishment [required] for our well-being fell on Him, and by His stripes we are healed.”

If man can invent machines that sustain life, how much more can God, the giver of life, restore and renew us completely?

Family, let us trust Him today, for He is still healing bodies, minds, and spirits.
