The Original Design | The Children You Were Born To Raise. What Happened? | Day 1

God's original assignment to nurture and raise life wasn't limited to people who have biological children. It's a calling, not just a biology. So, what if the calling to raise a child was never only for people who have one?
God, thank You for this day. Thank You for the calling to nurture life, whether it's my own child, someone else's, or someone I haven't met yet. Show me who I'm supposed to pour into today. In Jesus' name, amen.
God's original design was for people to fill the earth and take care of what's on it. This purpose is echoed in Isaiah 45:18, where God says He formed the earth 'to be inhabited,' meaning it was never meant to sit empty, but to be filled and cared for by the people He placed on it.
But that design was always bigger than biology.
Look at Judges 5:7, where Deborah is called "a mother in Israel." Deborah wasn’t leading a household of her own children. She was a judge, a leader, a voice for an entire nation in crisis. Scripture still calls her a mother, because the role of nurturing, protecting, and guiding wasn’t limited to the women who gave birth.
Then look at Ruth 4:16-17. After Ruth gives birth to Obed, the women of the town said, "there is a son born to Naomi." Now, Naomi wasn’t the one to give birth to that child. But she had walked with Ruth through famine, loss, and rebuilding a life from nothing, and the whole community recognized her as more than a grandmother by title; she was a mother by investment.
So, if you never had biological children, or your children are grown and gone, this isn’t a door that closed on you. A niece who needs someone steady. A neighbor’s child who needs correction nobody else will give. A young person at church who needs to be noticed. God’s original design for nurturing life didn’t require a birth certificate; it required a willing heart.
